Baseball Recap: Kennedy Catholic Falls Short Against Ranked Sumner

Kennedy Catholic faced Sumner in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Lancers fell just short of the Spartans by a score of 7-6. If the Lancers were looking for revenge after losing 9-7 to the Spartans when the teams met back in May of 2022, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Harvey Lieberman and Dante Saladino stepped up to the plate in a big way. Lieberman went 2-for-4 with two RBI, while Saladino went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaipo Matsushima, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

Kennedy Catholic's defeat dropped their record down to 16-6. As for Sumner, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 17-4 record this season.

Kennedy Catholic will face off against Camas at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Sumner does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
