St. Martinville hasn't had much luck against Comeaux recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The St. Martinville Tigers will welcome the Comeaux Spartans at 5:30 p.m. St. Martinville will aim to continue their three-game streak of scoring more runs each matchup than the last.
On Wednesday, St. Martinville beat Berchmans Academy 10-5.
Rylin Savoy made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Savoy was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ashlon Smith, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Kaden Gary, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 1-for-4.
St. Martinville always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Comeaux had to endure a 30-game losing streak dating back to last season, but that streak is no more. They blew past Gueydan 18-3 on Tuesday. The Spartans' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Like St. Martinville, Comeaux also got a great game from a two-way player: Reese Boutte. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over four innings while giving up three earned runs off three hits. Boutte was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI.
In other batting news, Mayson Picard and Kane Miller did most of the damage at the plate: Picard scored three runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4, while Miller got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and one run. Boston Kelly was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
The victory got St. Martinville back to even at 5-5. As for Comeaux, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-6.
Friday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. St. Martinville has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .473. However, it's not like Comeaux struggles in that department as they've averaged .484. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
