Basketball Recap: Alhambra Comes Up Short

Alhambra was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 72-59 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Hawthorne Cougars.

Hawthorne's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Jakobi Smith led the charge by putting up 26 points. That makes it three consecutive games in which Smith has scored at least a third of Hawthorne's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kordae Edwards, who posted 17 points.

Alhambra now has a losing record at 8-9. As for Hawthorne, they now have a winning record of 6-5.

Alhambra will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bell Gardens at 5:00 p.m. on January 13, 2025. Alhambra is facing Bell Gardens at the right time seeing as Bell Gardens is stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Hawthorne, they will look to defend their home court on January 6, 2025 against Culver City at 6:30 p.m. Culver City will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something Hawthorne surely won't give up without a fight.
