Softball Game Preview: West Rowan Falcons vs. Crest Chargers

The West Rowan Falcons will square off against the Crest Chargers on Tuesday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

West Rowan is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Friday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand North Buncombe a 1-0 shutout. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Falcons.

Meanwhile, Crest earned a 9-5 victory over Northwest Cabarrus on Friday.

Lily Pruett spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on nine hits and racked up nine Ks. With that strong performance, she is now averaging an impressive 5.1 strikeouts per game.

On the hitting side, Madalyn Bowen was excellent, going 3-for-4 with three runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Cooper Lancaster, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Crest was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .438. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .438 or higher in five consecutive games.

West Rowan's record now sits at 15-13. As for Crest, their record is now 19-4.

West Rowan got the 'W' in their previous matchup back in May of 2021 against Crest by a conclusive 9-1 score. Do the Falcons have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Chargers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
