Basketball Game Preview: Brandon Valley Lynx vs. Jefferson Cavaliers

Brandon Valley is 0-4 against Jefferson since December of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. After both having extra time off, the two teams will dust off their jerseys to take on one another at 6:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Brandon Valley comes in on three and Jefferson on five.

Brandon Valley is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup last Saturday. They came out on top against Pierre T.F. Riggs by a score of 53-42. Given the Lynx's advantage in MaxPreps' South Dakota basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Governors are ranked 73rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meanwhile, Jefferson hadn't done well against Washington recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way last Saturday. Jefferson walked away with a 58-48 victory over Washington.

Jefferson's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 9-11. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.3 points over those games. As for Brandon Valley, their victory bumped their record up to 18-3.

Brandon Valley came up short against Jefferson when the teams last played back in December of 2024, falling 62-56. Can Brandon Valley avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
