Softball Recap: Holy Cross Cougars vs. DuPont Manual Crimsons
Holy Cross had lost four straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 8-12 to make it five. They lost 11-0 to the DuPont Manual Crimsons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Cougars of the 6-1 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.
As for DuPont Manual, their record now sits at 17-11. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 14 contests by six runs or more this season.
For DuPont Manual's part, Liv Kunkle looked comfortable as she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out six over four innings pitched. Kunkle has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Payton Russell was incredible, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Shyanne Shrader, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI.
Coming up, Holy Cross will face off against North Bullitt at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Cougars' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Eagles have averaged an impressive 6.1 runs per game this season. As for DuPont Manual, they will challenge Shawnee at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Crimsons are facing the Golden Eagles at the right time seeing as the Golden Eagles are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
