Recap: South Bulldogs vs. Beechcroft Cougars
Even though the Beechcroft Cougars scored an imposing 69 points on Tuesday, the South Bulldogs still came out on top. South took their match against Beechcroft 82-69. Given South's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 145th, while Beechcroft is ranked 316th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
South had a senior duo take command as Lajames Washington scored 19 points and Maurice Mccall scored 19 points. Another player making a difference was Daeshawn Simmons, who scored ten points.
When it comes to explaining why Beechcroft lost, one person who can't be blamed is Santonio Dortch. Despite the final result, he dropped a double-double on 27 points and 13 rebounds. Khalil Samuel was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six assists and four steals.
The victory got South back to even at 1-1. As for Beechcroft, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 1-1.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South will stay at home for another game and welcome Ponitz Career Tech at 6:30 p.m. on December 9th. Beechcroft will take on Dunbar at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Dunbar focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Tuesday.
