Soccer Game Preview: Fauquier vs. Sherando

Fauquier is 2-8 against Sherando since April of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The Falcons will square off against the Warriors at 7:00 p.m. The two teams each escaped with close wins against their previous opponents.

Fauquier proved they can win big last Tuesday (they won by 14) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Meridian 2-1. The win continues a trend for Fauquier in their matchups with Meridian: they've now won three in a row.

Meanwhile, Sherando hadn't done well against James Wood recently (they were 0-9 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Warriors never let the Colonels get on the board and left with a 1-0 victory. Winning may never get old, but Sherando sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.

Sherando pushed their record up to 7-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only given up two goals over those five matchups. As for Fauquier, their win bumped their record up to 7-1.

Fauquier was able to grind out a solid victory over Sherando when the teams last played back in April of 2024, winning 4-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the squad won't have the home-pitch advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
