Basketball Recap: Nixon Drops Highest Score of Season Against Winn

Nixon had won four straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 9-7 to make it five. They took their game with ease, bagging a 107-31 win over the Winn Mavericks. The Mustangs' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

It was another big night for Dante Escobar, who went 11-for-16 to rack up 25 points and eight steals. His big performance that morning made it four games in a row in which he has scored at least 15 points. AJ Palacios was another key player, shooting 56% from the field en route to 13 points in addition to eight rebounds and three steals.

Nixon was working as a unit and finished the game with 26 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Winn only racked up six.

As for Winn, the defeat snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 5-8 record. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 1056th, while Nixon is ranked 364th).

Winn's loss came despite strong showings from Juan Cruz-Muhlenbruch and Armando Artiaga. Cruz-Muhlenbruch posted seven points, while Artiaga put up four points.

Nixon didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 51-50 victory against Boerne-Champion on the 5th. As for Winn, they have also already played their next contest, an 81-54 loss against United on the 5th.
