Basketball Recap: La Grange Starts off Right with Win over Hempstead

La Grange gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They really took it to the Hempstead Bobcats for the full four quarters, racking up a 71-28 win. With the Leopards ahead 32-12 at the half, the contest was all but over already.

La Grange was led to victory by Conner Brooks and Mason Kleiber. Brooks almost dropped a double-double with 22 points and nine rebounds, while Kleiber went 5-for-10 to rack up 15 points along with six boards and five steals. Those nine boards gave Brooks a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Hunter Gross, who posted four points and nine rebounds.

Hempstead dropped their record down to 1-1 with the defeat, which was their tenth straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, La Grange will be playing in front of their home fans against Hallettsville at 7:00 p.m. on December 2. As for Hempstead, they wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next game, a 59-51 victory against Bay City on the 25th.
