Baseball Recap: Smith-Cotton Takes a Loss

It was a good run, but Smith-Cotton unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of the Capital City Cavaliers by a score of 2-1. The Tigers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cavaliers earlier this season, when they won 6-2.

Jayden Archibeque spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on six hits and racked up six Ks. He has become a key player for Smith-Cotton: the team is 4-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 15-17 otherwise.

At the plate, Smith-Cotton saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ian Jackson, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base.

Smith-Cotton's loss dropped their record down to 19-18. As for Capital City, their win ended a ten-game drought on the road and puts them at 8-22.

Smith-Cotton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Capital City, they will take on Waynesville at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Cavaliers are facing the Tigers at the right time seeing as the Tigers are stuck on an 11-game losing streak.
