Basketball Recap: East Burke Cavaliers vs. Maiden Blue Devils
East Burke lost against Maiden back in December of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The East Burke Cavaliers fell 95-82 to the Maiden Blue Devils. Despite running the score up even higher than they did in their prior game last Tuesday (65), the Cavaliers still had to take the loss.

Loss or not, East Burke got some senior leadership from Jay Dixon and Barger Shook. Dixon went 7 of 11 on his way to 19 points, while Shook went 10 for 14 en route to 21 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Dixon has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Owen Hartmann, who almost dropped a double-double on nine points and nine assists.
Even though they lost, East Burke was working as a unit and finished the game with 24 assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.
Maiden's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Landen Lyerly, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and ten boards. Lyerly has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more rebounds the last 12 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Raheim Misher, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten boards.
East Burke has traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-10 record this season. As for Maiden, the win was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-2.
