Sumner extends road winning streak to six

Recap: Sumner Spartans vs. Emerald Ridge Jaguars

The Sumner Spartans put another one in the bag on Wednesday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 51-44 win over Emerald Ridge. Given Sumner's advantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked eighth, while Emerald Ridge is ranked 48th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Sumner's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Lainee Houillon, who scored 17 points along with nine rebounds and two steals. Houillon has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last ten times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kawehi Borden, who scored six points along with 12 rebounds.

Sumner pushed their record up to 13-0 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season. As for Emerald Ridge, their loss dropped their record down to 7-4.

Sumner will be playing at home against Bellarmine Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Bellarmine Prep will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak. As for Emerald Ridge, they will head out on the road to take on South Kitsap at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully South Kitsap focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Wednesday.
