Recap: Vela Sabercats vs. Boerne-Champion Chargers
After a string of three wins, the Vela Sabercats's good fortune finally ran out on Saturday. They were just a bucket shy of victory and fell 52-51 to Boerne-Champion.
Vela's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jp Olivarez, who scored 14 points along with 5 rebounds. Olivarez scored a full 27.5% of Vela's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Ej Avelar, who scored 9 points along with 4 steals.
Vela's defeat dropped their record down to 9-4. As for Boerne-Champion, they are on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season.
Vela will get a bit of extra time to process the loss as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Sharyland at 7:30 p.m. on December 12th. As for Boerne-Champion, they will be playing in front of their home fans against United on Saturday. United will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Texas Rankings (they are ranked 611th, while Boerne-Champion is ranked 106th).
