Baseball Recap: North Fremont Wins Going Away Against West Jefferson

North Fremont's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Wednesday. They were the clear victors by a 9-2 margin over the West Jefferson Panthers. The Huskies not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 19-6).

Benny Torres and Hunter Hogle were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Torres pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hogle didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Torres got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Hogle went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. Torres is becoming a predictor of North Fremont's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-8-1 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Saul Labra was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Reuger Lenz was another key player, going 2-for-3 with three stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.

North Fremont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

North Fremont's victory bumped their record up to 6-8-1. As for West Jefferson, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the defeat, which was their 11th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Looking ahead, North Fremont will challenge Challis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season. As for West Jefferson, they will venture away from home to face off against Teton at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Timberwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of.
