Softball Recap: Oak Mountain Gets the Win

Oak Mountain proved they can win big on Friday (they won by 12) and on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They skirted past the Athens Golden Eagles 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Eagles have posted since April 20, 2024.

Marian Cummings was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in strikeouts. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and two RBI.

In other pitching news, Maddie Prevallet looked comfortable as she pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit.

Cummings wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Rylie Redden, who went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one run.

Oak Mountain always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .529. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Athens only posted an OBP of .312.

The victory got Oak Mountain back to even at 4-4. As for Athens, their loss dropped their record down to 4-2.

The future could be bright for both Oak Mountain and Athens: their next opponents haven't had the best luck recently. Oak Mountain will try to hand Hamilton their fifth-straight defeat when the two meet at 10:45 a.m. on Saturday. Similarly, Athens will look to extend Hayden's five-game losing streak when they meet at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
