Softball Game Preview: Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets vs. Penfield Patriots

The Rush-Henrietta Royal Comets will square off against the Penfield Patriots at 5:00 p.m. on Friday.

Rush-Henrietta is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 14 runs on Monday, they were much more limited against Webster Schroeder on Thursday. They fell just short of the Warriors by a score of 3-2. The loss continues a trend for the Royal Comets in their meetings with the Warriors: they've now lost four in a row.

Meanwhile, Penfield came tearing into Wednesday's matchup with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.2 runs), and they left with even more momentum. Everything went their way against the Red Raiders as they made off with an 11-3 victory. That's two games straight that the Patriots have won by exactly eight runs.

Clare Magee tossed a big game, pitching 5.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Penfield got a massive performance out of Megan Clark, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple. Clark is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Alexi Cimino was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.

Penfield pushed their record up to 12-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.2 runs over those games. As for Rush-Henrietta, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-5.
