Softball Recap: Mercy McAuley Comes Up Short

Mercy McAuley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Seton Saints. The Wolves were not able to make up for their defeat to the Saints from their previous meeting back in May of 2023.

Sophia Ward spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and six unearned) runs on ten hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Mercy McAuley saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaylee Hartmann, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Maddie Sucietto was another, scoring a run and stealing two bases while going 1-for-3.

Mercy McAuley's loss dropped their record down to 4-6. As for Seton, the victory got them back to even at 2-2.

Looking ahead, Mercy McAuley will challenge Roger Bacon at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. As for Seton, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Little Miami at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
