The Greencastle Tiger Cubs will square off against the Parke Heritage Wolves at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. Greencastle is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.8 runs per game this season.
Greencastle is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against South Vermillion, sneaking past 6-4. The Tiger Cubs haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
Sam Gooch made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Nathan Sutherlin, who went 2-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Connor Sullivan, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Parke Heritage entered their tilt with Southmont on Thursday with seven consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with eight. They walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Mounties.
Not much got past Braydon Goodwin, who gave up just three hits to keep Southmont off the board.
On the hitting side, Parke Heritage saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Klayton Burgess, who went 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI. BT Luce was another, going 2-for-3 with one run.
Greencastle's record is now 17-5. As for Parke Heritage, their record now sits at 17-8.
Greencastle beat Parke Heritage 5-2 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Tiger Cubs since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
