Basketball Game Preview: Pontiac Indians vs. LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers

The Pontiac Indians will head out to square off against the LaSalle-Peru Cavaliers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

On Friday, Pontiac needed a bit of extra time to put away Peoria Notre Dame. They walked away with a 54-45 win over the Irish. The Indians didn't have much to brag about two games back, but this victory makes it their second in a row.

Meanwhile, LaSalle-Peru had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 12 points) and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They pulled ahead with a 57-56 photo finish over the Rockets. The win was all the more spectacular given the Cavaliers' disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 224th, while the Rockets are ranked 94th).

LaSalle-Peru is on a roll lately: they've won five of their last six contests, which provided a nice bump to their 6-3 record this season. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.5 points per game. As for Pontiac, the victory was their first on the road , bumping their record up to 2-6.

Pontiac came up short against LaSalle-Peru in their previous meeting back in November of 2023, falling 64-60. Can Pontiac avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
