Basketball Game Preview: Willows Honkers vs. Colusa RedHawks

Willows is 0-10 against Colusa since January of 2020 but things could change on Tuesday. The Willows Honkers will take on the Colusa RedHawks at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

Willows was handed a 28-point defeat in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Friday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 44-42 win over Winters. The team accrued 32 points in the first half and coasted on those for the victory.

Meanwhile, Colusa was fully in charge on Friday, breezing past Pierce 71-42. The RedHawks pushed the score to 57-35 by the end of the third, a deficit the Bears had little chance of recovering from.

Willows better focus on containing Ernest Mitchum and Jace MacKaben as the pair were huge in Colusa's win. Mitchum went 7 for 12 to rack up 18 points, while MacKaben went 7 of 14 en route to 15 points and eight boards. The dominant performance gave Mitchum a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaeden Stallcop, who posted nine points.

Colusa smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive boards in three consecutive games.

Willows' win was their first in the league, bumping their league record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 2-19. As for Colusa, their victory bumped their record up to 9-15.

Willows was taken down by Colusa 66-39 in their previous matchup back in January. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Colusa's Cade Smith, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 24 rebounds. Now that Willows knows the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? There's only one way to find out.
