Softball Recap: Southampton Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Southampton had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.5 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Wednesday. They blew past the Brunswick Bulldogs 19-0. The result was nothing new for the Indians, who have now won five matchups by eight runs or more so far this season.

Kayla Brooks and Natasha Melbye did most of the damage at the plate: Brooks got on base in two of her three plate appearances with three runs, three RBI, and one stolen base, while Melbye got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those three RBI gave Brooks a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Hill, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.

Southampton hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in five consecutive games.

Southampton's victory bumped their record up to 8-3. As for Brunswick, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-7-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Southampton beat the Bulldogs by a score of 18-1 later that day.
