Basketball Recap: Berean Academy Comes Up Short

After soaring to 64 points the game before, Berean Academy was a bit more limited in their matchup on Thursday. They took a 34-25 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Alta Vista Lobos. The Eagles were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lobos apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in January of 2023.

Despite the defeat, Berean Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Khamarah Golden posted six points in addition to 16 boards and three steals. Golden is crushing it when it comes to boards: she's pulled down at least nine every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Mariana Sloan, who had four points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Berean Academy smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 31 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive rebounds in six consecutive contests.

Berean Academy's loss was their fifth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Alta Vista, the win (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-1.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Berean Academy beat Alta Vista by a score of 50-32 on Monday.
