Basketball Preview: Southeast Pirates vs. Cardinal Huskies
Southeast has enjoyed a four-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will challenge the Cardinal Huskies at 6:45 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that both teams suffered a loss in their last game, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.
Southeast pushed their score all the way to 62 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They received a tough blow as they fell 77-62 to Mogadore. Southeast has struggled against the Wildcats recently, as their matchup on Friday was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.
Despite the loss, Southeast got a solid performance out of Garrett Sprutte, who dropped a double-double on 32 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 51.6% of Southeast's points, marking the 16th time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Cardinal's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight defeat. Their rough 60-38 loss to Grand Valley might stick with them for a while.
Southeast has traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 7-9 record this season. As for Cardinal, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-14.
Southeast took their win against the Huskies when the teams last played back in December of 2020 by a conclusive 64-42. Does Southeast have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Huskies turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
