Baseball Game Preview: Franklin Broncos vs. Manor Mustangs

The Franklin Broncos will take on the Manor Mustangs at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Franklin is looking for their season's first win.

Essex hit Franklin with a 17-run first inning on Monday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Broncos lost 19-0 to the Trojans.

Meanwhile, Manor got the win against Norcom on Tuesday by a conclusive 16-6. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won five matchups by seven runs or more this season.

Ethan McCrickard and Gavin Shelburne made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, McCrickard tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Shelburne struck out six batters over three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits (and only one walk). Manor is 2-1 when McCrickard allows two or fewer hits, but 3-6 otherwise. At bat, McCrickard went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Shelburne went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases and four RBI. That's the most hits Shelburne has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Cody Miller and Harrison Griffin did most of the damage at the plate: Miller got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Griffin went 2-for-3 with four runs, two stolen bases, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave Miller a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Henry Newburn, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Manor kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Manor's record now sits at 5-7. As for Franklin, their loss dropped their record down to 0-6.
