Basketball Recap: Gwen Stewart's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Reed-Custer over Serena

Reed-Custer lost against Serena back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Tuesday. The Reed-Custer Comets lost to the Serena Huskers on the road by a 42-24 margin. While losing is never fun, the Comets can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 480th, while the Huskers are ranked 198th).

Several Comets players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Gwen Stewart, who posted seven points and five boards.

Reed-Custer has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last eight matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-13 record this season. As for Serena, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 19-5.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Reed-Custer has already played their next game (against Herscher), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Serena will face off against Hiawatha at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. Serena is facing Hiawatha at the right time seeing as Hiawatha is stuck on a 21-game losing streak.
