Football Recap: Steamboat Springs Piles Up the Points Against Aspen

Steamboat Springs barely beat Aspen the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sailors really took it to the Skiers for the full four quarters, racking up a 49-7 win. Fans of the Sailors have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Steamboat Springs' win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eli Bever, who rushed for 188 yards and one score on only 15 carries. Bever really tore up the turf during one magnificent 80-yard run. Tanner Cobb was another key player, rushing for 83 yards and one TD on only ten carries.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Steamboat Springs was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 439 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 184 rushing yards in four consecutive contests dating back to last season.

When it comes to explaining why Aspen lost, don't look at Dylan Mika. Despite the final result, he rushed for 121 yards, and also picked up 34 receiving yards. Mika's rushing production has been exceptional as that marked his fifth straight game with at least 115 rushing yards dating back to last season.

Steamboat Springs' victory bumped their record up to 3-0. As for Aspen, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Coincidentally, Steamboat Springs and Aspen will both be playing Summit the next time they take the field. The Skiers will head out to face the Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Sailors will host them at 7:00 p.m. on the 26th.
