Baseball Game Preview: Schurr Spartans vs. Nogales Nobles

For the second straight game, Schurr will face off against Nogales. The Spartans will square off against the Nobles at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Schurr hasn't scored more than two runs for three games straight, a trend the squad is eager to reverse.

While Schurr's victory against Nogales wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 2-1 win over the Nobles on Thursday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Spartans have posted since March 3rd.

The team relied heavily on Joseph Hernandez, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Schurr's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 7-13 when he doesn't). Joseph Tapia also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.

Nogales has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-13 record this season. Those defeats can't be blamed on the team's pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games. As for Schurr, their win bumped their record up to 10-13.
