Recap: Smith Academy Fighting 54th vs. Eastside Blazers
The Smith Academy Fighting 54th lost against the Eastside Blazers back in February of 2019, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. Smith Academy was beaten by Eastside 57-24. Smith Academy was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-11.
Eastside's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Clayton Minnick led the charge by scoring 15 points along with 3 steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Ryder Reed, who scored 9 points along with 5 steals.
Smith Academy's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Eastside, the victory got them back to even at 1-1.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Smith Academy will take on Whitko at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Whitko presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Smith Academy in Indiana (Whitko is ranked 138th, while Smith Academy is ranked 313th). As for Eastside, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Fort Wayne Canterbury at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Fort Wayne Canterbury focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 13 on Friday.
