Softball Recap: Union Mine's Win Ends Six-Game Losing Streak on the Road

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Liberty Ranch, Union Mine was happy to have turned things around on Tuesday. They had just enough and edged out the El Dorado Cougars 8-6. This was payback for the Diamondbacks, who suffered a 4-3 loss the last time these two teams met.

Madison Matlack spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits.

On the hitting side, Jillian Niles and Ruby Luce did most of the damage at the plate: Niles went 2-for-3 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Luce scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-2. That's the most runs Luce has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was Bella Sebastian, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.

Union Mine's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-6. As for El Dorado, they are on a nine-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-8.

Union Mine and El Dorado could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Diamondbacks (ranked 866th) will meet Liberty Ranch (ranked 411th) at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, El Dorado will face off against Argonaut at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday with a big rank disadvantage (1049 vs. 406).
