Baseball Game Preview: Avon Eagles vs. Elyria Pioneers

For the second straight game, Avon will face off against Elyria. The Eagles will take on the Pioneers at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.

Avon took a loss when they played away from home on Friday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Monday. They walked away with a 7-3 win over Elyria. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Pioneers: they've now won seven in a row.

Avon got a great performance from Matthew Sheldon as he struck out nine batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits (and only one walk). Sheldon has become a key player for the Eagles: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one earned run, but 6-11 otherwise.

At the plate, Kyle Delury was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Jensen Petro, who went 1-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base.

Avon's win bumped their record up to 8-12. As for Elyria, they are on a nine-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-16.
