Russellville had won three straight at home, but on Friday they bumped up to 5-3 to make it four. They breezed past the West Point Warriors to the tune of 42-14. Given the Golden Tigers' advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama football rankings (they are ranked 113th, while the Warriors are ranked 238th) , the win wasn't entirely unexpected.

Russellville found their leader in sophomore Whit Goodwin, who threw for 330 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.4 yards per attempt, and also punched in one TD on the ground. Goodwin's passing game has become a key predictor of the Golden Tigers' success: the team is 4-1 when his passer rating is 100 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise. Tarus Davis was another key player, gaining 96 total yards and two touchdowns.

Russellville didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited West Point to a completion percentage of just 33.3%. The Golden Tigers weren't nearly as limited: they posted one of 60%.

Russellville didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. It was truly a group effort as Drake Ergle, Jasen Noel, and Malaki Groce picked up one apiece. Braxton Duncan was another major factor on D, making 18 total tackles.

As for West Point, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4. They have struggled against Russellville recently, as the game was their seventh consecutive lost matchup.

Despite the loss, West Point still got an impressive performance from Ollie Howell, who rushed for 208 yards and one score while picking up 8.0 yards per carry. Howell showed off some serious burst, turning on the afterburners on one carry for 61 yards.

We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Russellville will square off against rival Priceville at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 921 yards in their previous games. Meanwhile, West Point is set to face off against their familiar foe Ardmore at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
