Softball Game Preview: Marshall Eagles vs. El Monte Lions

Marshall is 0-10 against El Monte since March of 2020 but things could change on Monday. The Eagles will host the Lions at 3:15 p.m. Marshall has given up an average of 21.6 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Marshall is headed into Monday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 20th straight game dating back to last season on Friday. They came up short against Arroyo, falling 18-2.

The home team had come away the winner the last seven times El Monte and Mountain View had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Lions walked away with an 8-5 win over the Vikings on Friday. The victory continues a trend for the Lions in their matchups with the Vikings: they've now won three in a row.

Eve Reyes spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Leilani Diaz, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Julissa Flores, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 0-17. As for El Monte, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
