Softball Game Preview: Whitney Wildcats vs. Elk Grove Thundering Herd

The Whitney Wildcats will take on the Elk Grove Thundering Herd at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Whitney's pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so Elk Grove's hitters will have their work cut out for them.

On Monday, Whitney didn't have quite enough to beat Pleasant Grove and fell 4-2. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Whitney saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sidney Kleiner, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4. That run was Kleiner's first of the season. Another was Brooklyn Steele, who went 1-for-3 with one triple and two RBI.

Meanwhile, Elk Grove fought the good fight in their extra-innings contest against Davis Sr. on Monday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Blue Devils by a score of 8-7.

Elk Grove also got a good showing from Rachel Williams, who struck out six batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off four hits (and not a single walk). Williams has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Iaianah Castillo was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of her plate appearances. Jadyn Magnuson was another key player, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.

Elk Grove now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Whitney, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-2.
