Football Game Preview: Maranacook Black Bears vs. Freeport Falcons

The Maranacook Black Bears are taking a road trip to take on the Freeport Falcons at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Maranacook has given up an average of 34.4 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Maranacook is headed into the contest out to prove that what happened against John Bapst Memorial on Saturday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. The Black Bears were outmatched by the Crusaders and fell 47-20. While losing is never fun, the Black Bears can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Maine football rankings (they are ranked 52nd, while the Crusaders are ranked sixth).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Freeport, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They strolled past Lisbon with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 26-12.

Freeport now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Maranacook, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 1-4.

Maranacook was taken down by Freeport 31-0 when the teams last played back in October of 2024. Can the Black Bears avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
