Baseball Game Preview: Fort Collins Lambkins vs. Mountain View Mountain Lions

The Fort Collins Lambkins will head out on the road to face off against the Mountain View Mountain Lions at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

While Fort Collins' victory against Arvada West wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Lambkins had just enough and edged out the Wildcats 5-4.

Porter Park looked comfortable as he pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has become a key player for Fort Collins: the team is 2-1 when he allows at most one hit, but 2-5 otherwise.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kaden Souders, who went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in May of 2024. Ben Hopper was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one home run.

Fort Collins lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mountain View). They were the clear victors by a 19-0 margin over Greeley Central on Monday. The Mountain Lions have beaten the Wildcats the last five times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Wildcats has come to flipping the script.

Tristan Gilbert was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, four RBI, and one triple. Another player making a difference was Derek Parker, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

The win got Mountain View back to even at 5-5. As for Fort Collins, their record is now 4-6.

Fort Collins took their victory against Mountain View when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1 score. Will the Lambkins repeat their success, or do the Mountain Lions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
