Softball Recap: Edgewood Triumphs

While Edgewood's win against Geneva wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Warriors had just enough and edged out the Eagles 6-5 on Saturday. The victory continues a trend for the Warriors in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won nine in a row.

Lucianna Paolillo spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up nine Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Sydney Miller was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Natalie Ianetta, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Edgewood hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Geneva struck out nine times.

Edgewood's record is now 17-3. As for Geneva, with the defeat, they broke their three-game winning streak and moved their record to 10-11.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Edgewood will host Jefferson Area at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Warriors' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 9.3 runs per game this season. As for Geneva, they will challenge Lake at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Eagles' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Streaks have averaged an impressive 6.7 runs per game this season.
