Volleyball Recap: Newtown Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Eli Sullivan and Kade Deraney

After flying high against Kolbe-Cathedral last Wednesday, Newtown came back down to earth. The Nighthawks took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Joel Barlow Falcons on Tuesday. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last six times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

While Newtown had to settle for second, they sure made a game of it, scoring at least 18 points in every set they played. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-20, 23-25, 25-18.

Newtown's loss came despite strong showings from Kade Deraney and Eli Sullivan. Deraney had five digs, two aces, and one block, while Sullivan had 20 digs and five assists. Deraney has been hot, having also posted 18 or more assists the last six times he's played.

Newtown's defeat dropped their record down to 15-7. As for Joel Barlow, they have been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season.

Newtown does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Joel Barlow, they will welcome Masuk at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.
