Baseball Recap: Eunice Beats Texico for Their Ninth Straight Victory

Eunice had already won eight in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10 runs) and they went ahead and made it nine on Saturday. They put the hurt on the Texico Wolverines with a sharp 20-4 victory. That's the fourth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent win being a 15-1 victory last Tuesday.

Fernando Serna and Haziel Goitia were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Serna didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out eight over four innings pitched. Meanwhile, Goitia pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Serna has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. At bat, Serna got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Goitia went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Those two RBI gave Goitia a new career-high.

In other batting news, Jose Calvillo was a standout: he went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Isaac Melancon also deserves some recognition as he scored his first runs of the season.

Eunice always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Texico only posted an OBP of .333.

Eunice's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-4. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Texico, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-12.

As of now, neither Eunice nor the Wolverines have any future games scheduled.
