Basketball Recap: Skyridge Falls Short Against Ranked Mountain Ridge

On Tuesday, Skyridge faced Mountain Ridge in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Skyridge Falcons fell 63-53 to the Mountain Ridge Sentinels. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Falcons of the 50-39 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in January of 2024.

When it comes to explaining why Skyridge lost, don't look at Bella Sika. Despite the final result, she went 6 for 15 on her way to 17 points and five rebounds. Anaiya Nelson was another key player, putting up nine points.

Mountain Ridge was led to victory by Jessica Maynard and Jada Jangard. Maynard went 5 of 11 on her way to 10 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals, while Jangard went 6 for 8 on her way to 15 points along with six rebounds and five assists. The team also got some help courtesy of Cailin Kehl, who went 5 of 8 on her way to 10 points.

This is the second loss in a row for Skyridge and nudges their season record down to 7-6. As for Mountain Ridge, their record is now 8-5.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Skyridge will face off against Westlake at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Skyridge is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.8 points per game this season. As for Mountain Ridge, they will take on Herriman at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Mountain Ridge also hasn't been messing around on offense: they've averaged 58.5 points per game.
