The Jurupa Hills Spartans will venture away from home to square off against the Kaiser Cats at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. Jurupa Hills is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.5 runs per game this season.
Jurupa Hills is headed into the game having just posted their closest win since April 16, 2024 on Friday. They won by a run and slipped past Carter 8-7. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won four in a row.
Kaylin Olguin spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and three unearned) runs on 11 hits and racked up six Ks.
At the plate, Isabela Torres was incredible, going 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Sophie Gutierrez was another key player, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4.
Jurupa Hills was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. They are 7-2 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, Kaiser was not the first on the board last Wednesday, but they got there more often. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Carter, sneaking past 8-6.
The team relied heavily on Isabella Retana, who went 2-for-3 with four RBI, two doubles, and one run. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. Aaliyah Davis also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Kaiser's win ended a six-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 5-11. As for Jurupa Hills, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Kaiser's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Jurupa Hills hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .418. It's a different story for Kaiser, though, as they've only averaged .241. Will they be able to contain Jurupa Hills' hitters?
Jurupa Hills beat Kaiser 15-10 in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Spartans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
