C1 District 1 recap October 8, 2013
Douglas County West lost to Logan View 21-0 last week, the largest margin of any game. Taylor Hill ran for 70 yards in the loss.
Arlington and Fort Calhoun played the most contested game in C1 District 1 this week, with Arlington eventually emerging with a 7-6 victory. Jonathan Smailys ran for 94 yards during the win.
Tanner Schwarting made the biggest impact on defense this week as Concordia lost to Boys Town. The 6-foot-2 junior forced 1 fumble and grabbed 1 sack.
Riley Grosse-Rhode was a passing and rushing force as the Pioneers fell to the Eagles. He completed 7 passes for 83 yards and also ran for 27 yards. Grosse-Rhode's key target this week was Jon Keenan, who caught 4 passes for 49 yards.
Tanner Torosian put up the best numbers in passing as the Mustangs fell to the Cowboys. He finished with a total of 11 completions for 75 yards and 1 touchdown. Torosian's favorite target this week was Ben Fletcher, who caught 3 passes for 37 yards.
Concordia's Torosian and Fletcher have formed a dream team this season, leading the league in both passing and receiving yards. 6-0 quarterback Torosian has thrown for 708 yards this season, while Fletcher has 19 catches for 293 yards. Smailys from Arlington leads the league in rushing with 521 yards.
A big matchup in the league this week will be when Fort Calhoun takes on Boys Town. As it stands, Andrew Christensen's team is in fourth, while Kevin Kush's team is in second.
Steven Gubbels' team made the biggest leap in the national rankings this week, rising to 5,817 from 7,099. The improvement was the result of a 7-6 victory over the Pioneers last week.
