Junction City was handed a nine-run loss in their previous outing, but that didn't affect their clutch gene on Monday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over the Gurdon Go-Devils. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Dragons also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2024.

Caden Sims made a splash while hitting and pitching. He pitched 6.2 innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 12 hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one walk in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Sims wasn't the only one making solid contact as seven players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Joe Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Justin Johnson also deserves some recognition as he hit his first double of the season.

Junction City is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.0 runs over those games. As for Gurdon, they dropped their record down to 4-8 with the defeat, which was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season.

Junction City didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 20-11 victory against Fordyce on the 23rd. As for Gurdon, they will be playing at home against Centerpoint at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Go-Devils are facing the Knights at the right time seeing as the Knights are stuck on an eight-game losing streak.
