Softball Recap: Hackley Picks Up Fifth Consecutive Victory

Hackley put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They walked away with a 7-3 victory over the Fieldston Eagles. The seven-run effort marked the Hornets' lowest-scoring contest of the season, but in the end it didn't matter.

Andrea Hegarty made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 15 over seven innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one double.

In other batting news, Hackley let Ellie Firsenbaum and Gabrielle Paes run wild. Firsenbaum went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double, while Paes got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs and two RBI. That double marked the first that Firsenbaum has hit this season. Elle Karger was another key player, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.

Hackley pushed their record up to 5-0 with the win, which was their third straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hackley will host Varsity Opponent at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Varsity Opponent has struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.9 runs per game on average), something Hackley will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Fieldston, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Nightingale-Bamford at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. The Eagles have a tough task ahead: they'll enter the match with four straight losses, while the Nighthawks will come in with four straight victories.
