South Florence faced Summerville in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Friday. In a tight match that could have gone either way, the Bruins made off with a 22-21 victory over the Green Wave. The win was familiar territory for the Bruins, who have now won seven games in a row dating back to last season.

Messiah Jackson looked great while leading his team to the win, rushing for 33 yards and three scores, while also throwing for 113 yards and one touchdown. Those three rushing touchdowns gave him a new career-high. South Florence also got a significant boost from Gabe McLaughlin, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 85 yards.

South Florence didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Amare Reaves. South Florence got some further help from Terry Gordon: he picked up a sack and made 11 total tackles (4.0 for loss).

South Florence's record now sits at 2-0. As for Summerville, their loss dropped their record down to 1-1.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. South Florence will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Northwestern at 7:05 p.m. on Friday. As for Summerville, they will host Berkeley at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
