Basketball Recap: Collegiate Skates Past Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association with Ease

Collegiate's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Saint Gertrude on Friday. The Collegiate Cougars really took it to the Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Patriots for the full four quarters, racking up a 62-33 win. The Cougars pushed the score to 47-26 by the end of the third, a deficit the Patriots had little chance of recovering from.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Collegiate to victory, but perhaps none more so than Makenzie Weiss, who went 6 of 10 en route to 16 points and six steals. Collegiate is 2-1 when Weiss posts five or more steals, but 8-9 otherwise. Clare Aman was another key player, putting up 18 points and seven boards.

Collegiate was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive games.

Collegiate pushed their record up to 10-10 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.0 points over those games. As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-9 record this season.

Looking ahead, Collegiate will square off against St. Margaret's at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association, they will challenge Christchurch School at 5:00 p.m. on February 17th.
