Football Recap: Emmett Takes a Loss

Emmett was the 35-14 winner over Columbia when they last played one another back in October of 2024, but their luck changed this time around. The Huskies lost 34-14 to the Wildcats on Thursday. The game marked the Huskies' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Despite the defeat, Emmett saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Eli Brennan rushed for 131 yards and one score on only ten carries, and also threw for 41 yards and one touchdown. Those 131 rushing yards set a new season-high mark for Brennan.

Jackson Cheslak produced another solid effort rushing for 170 yards and a pair of TDs on only 14 carries for Columbia. Cheslak is becoming a predictor of the Wildcats' success: when he posts at least 100 rushing yards the team is undefeated (and 1-2 when he doesn't). Columbia also got a significant boost from Santiago Carbajal, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 110 yards.

Emmett now has a losing record of 3-4. As for Columbia, their record now sits at 4-2.

Emmett will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Nampa at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Columbia, they will take on Skyview at 7:00 p.m. on the 10th. The Wildcats will be up against the Hawks' rather soft defense (which has allowed 39.5 points per matchup), so fans could be in store for a big offensive performance.
