Softball Preview: New Holstein Huskies vs. Kiel Raiders

New Holstein is 10-0 against Kiel since April of 2019, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Monday. The New Holstein Huskies will head out on the road to square off against the Kiel Raiders at 4:30 p.m. New Holstein is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 8.8 runs per game this season.

On Saturday, New Holstein came up short against Winnebago Lutheran Academy and fell 9-6. That's two games in a row now that New Holstein has lost by exactly three runs.

Makayla Meyer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits.

On the hitting side, Jacey Sesing was cooking despite her team's loss, going 3-for-3 with four stolen bases. The team also got some help courtesy of Kourtney Karls, who went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI.

Aubrianne Freund made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and only one hit over five innings pitched. Freund was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base and two RBI.

In other batting news, Taylor Halfmann was incredible, going 1-for-2 with a home run, three runs, and two RBI. Addi Karls was another key contributor, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-2.

This is the second loss in a row for New Holstein and nudges their season record down to 4-3. As for Kiel, their victory bumped their record up to 3-1.

Both the pair just can't seem to miss. New Holstein has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Kiel struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 2.8. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.

New Holstein took their win against Kiel in their previous meeting back in April of 2023 by a conclusive 9-0. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Holstein since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
