Basketball Recap: Canyon Springs' Winning Streak Snapped at Four Games

After flying high against Heritage last Thursday, Canyon Springs came back down to earth. The Canyon Springs Cougars fell 55-47 to the El Segundo Eagles on Monday. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Despite the loss, Canyon Springs saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gabriel Serrato went 9 for 17 on his way to 21 points. Serrato continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Mims, who posted seven points and three steals.

Even though they lost, Canyon Springs smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive games.

Canyon Springs' defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for El Segundo, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.

Canyon Springs didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 60-40 win against La Puente on the 26th. As for El Segundo, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 74-52 loss against Walnut on the 26th.
