Recap: Coconino Panthers vs. Mingus Marauders
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Flagstaff, the Coconino Panthers were happy to have found some success on Wednesday. They came out on top against Mingus by a score of 47-40. For Coconino, this counts as revenge for the 53-45 loss Mingus walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2023.
Coconino's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Madisyn Paddock, who scored 13 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Aviana Scharfenberger was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds.
Mingus lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Savannah Tobias, who scored ten points along with eight rebounds and four steals. Tobias is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Brianka Villalobos, who scored eight points along with three steals.
Coconino pushed their record up to 9-11 with that victory, which was their third straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.3 points per game. As for Mingus, they have traveled a rocky road recently, as they've lost three of their last four matchups, which put a noticeable dent in their 15-4 record this season.
Coconino will face off against Lee Williams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Mingus, they will be playing at home against Bradshaw Mountain at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Bradshaw Mountain focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 27 on Thursday.
